VARIETAL AND
CLONAL INNOVATION

Grape variety : Innovitirosé

Title :

VARIETAL AND CLONAL INNOVATION AT THE SERVICE OF ROSE WINES

Origin :

The principle of the Innovitirosé programme is to maintain the diversity of the vine population in the Provence region and the answer new environmental issues: ecological transition and adaptation to climate change. Four main ways were studied : old varieties, new varieties which are resistant to cryptogamic (fungal) diseases, foreign varieties which are resistant to drought and great heat, the clonal diversity on the Mourvdre variety.

Period :

2017-2019

Objectives :

The aim of this study is to make a certain number of varieties, which could regenerate or complete the current vine population, available to the Provence wine making sector. Indigenous, foreign or innovative varieties will be tested, in the vineyard and in the cellar, for their aptitude to produce quality rosé while meeting the new environmental constraints.

Application :

Experimental wine growing and wine making supervision, physicochemical et sensorial characterisation of the following categories :

  • Grape varieties which are adapted to climatic change (Agiorgitiko, Mavrud, Tempranillo, Touriga Nacional, Pinotage, Sciacarello and Zinfandel).
  • Grape varieties which are resistant to mildew and oidium (Prior, le Monarch, le Cabernet Carbon)
  • Study collection of Mourvèdre clones: 3rd phase of selection
